Members of the Urbana Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 70 and the Urbana Firefighters Local 1147 announced they are making a joint endorsement for Mayor of Urbana for the first time.  The groups joined Alderwoman Diane Marlin to endorse her in the February 28 Democratic Primary for Mayor.

FOP Lodge President Zachery Mikalik says members voted to endorse Marlin because she represent important change needed in the city.  Mikalik says members decided to take the rare step to endorse in an Urbana Mayoral race.

"Police officers are the first line against crime, drugs, and many other issues that trouble a community.  Here in Urbana, we're concerned about keeping our neighborhoods safe and having the right support for our officers," he said.  "That's why we deiced to endorse Diane marlin for Mayor.  Urbana needs change, and Diane brings the values, experience, compassion, and qualifications to be a great leader for all of Urbana.

Firefighters local 1147 President Steve Doggett says Diane Marlin is the right choice for Mayor.  "Firefighters are keenly aware of the need for stronger public safety services, more economic development and a new Mayor, who can build great relationships with city employees, residents, and business people," Doggett said.  "We're lagging behind other area communities, and Diane will help create new jobs, protect existing jobs, and focus on sustainable growth for the city.  Diane Marlin is the right choice for Urbana on February 28."
