About Diane Marlin
I grew up on a farm in LaSalle County, Illinois and have lived in Urbana since 1971. I earned a BS in Human Development and an MS in Foods and Nutrition from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I worked as a Registered Dietitian and Affiliate Faculty member at Parkland College and retired from the University of Illinois as Coordinator of Research Programs in the Family Resiliency Center. I was elected to the Urbana City Council in 2009, re-elected in 2013 and was sworn in as Mayor of Urbana on May 1, 2017.
My husband, John, and I have two grown children who attended Coop Nursery School, Leal School, Urbana Middle School, and Urbana High School. We owned and managed rental property in Urbana for 43 years. We also propagated native woodland wildflowers and made them available to local schools, parks, and homeowners interested in sustainable landscaping. In my spare time, I enjoy photography, gardening, biking, cooking, and traveling. But, most of all, I love being "Grandma" to my two grandsons!
